1-year-old Venkata Laxmi’s failing heart is suffocating her so much that there have been days where she hasn’t been able to breathe without the help of a ventilator. A hole in the baby’s heart is worsening her condition every day and she won’t last long unless she undergoes a heart surgery very soon. Her treatment has been delayed for a year because her poor father just can’t seem to afford it.

Venkata Laxmi’s severe condition bothers her parents every day

“Along with her hands, her legs are turning very blue too. She struggles to breathe because of which she just remains so quiet most of the time. She doesn’t laugh, neither does she feel like playing much too. All the parent wants to see their kids happy and playing. She can’t talk but I know she’s suffering so much. It disturbs me to look at her like this. “ – Balaji

In May 2018, when Venketa Laxmi was just an infant, she was diagnosed with a dangerous hole in her heart which needed urgent attention. The 1-year-old has luckily survived for an entire year but now, her condition is so serious that her heart is at a very high risk of failure.

Venkata Laxmi is a fighter who has survived several respiratory failures

“This happened once after May 2018 but again, just 2 months ago, her breathing stopped and her body became so cold. I thought we had lost her. But again, she fought hard and survived. Those days in the ICUs were just so scary. It’s so difficult for any parent to watch their child buried under pipes and needles.” – A. Kumari (mother).

Apart from hanging on by a thread, the 1-year-old doesn’t breastfeed much and doesn’t feel like eating anything else. She is so weak that she hasn’t even been able to walk. She weighs just 6.8 kgs which is dangerously below the average of around 10.5 kgs. She hasn't grown at all in the last year.

The baby’s heart surgery should have happened a year ago

“We had no money and on top of that Venkata Laxmi was too weak to undergo surgery. Things just kept getting delayed and it’s already been a year. I don’t know how long she can keep going like this. I just can’t forget all the days I’d take her to the park. She’d always call out the cats, dogs and birds and look so happy.” – A. Kumari.

Despite taking 6-7 tablets every day, Venkata Laxmi can only survive if she undergoes a corrective heart surgery within the next few weeks.

How you can help

Balaji is a daily wage laborer who works on construction sites for a meager sum of Rs. 200/day. Venkata Laxmi’s heart will stop unless she gets an urgent surgery which costs around Rs. 3.5 lakhs. Balaji has spent around Rs. 40,000 to keep Venkata Laxmi alive but now, he is in desperate need of your help.

“Venkata Laxmi takes 6-7 medicines a day, which are expensive. On top of it, I have to borrow Rs. 4000 to travel to the hospital in Hydrabad and back home in Odhisa. It’s so expensive. That’s how bad our situation is.”

I am so sorry for what your precious son is going through, as well as you as his father. I can’t imagine how hard it is on all of you. I am praying for you, and I want to encourage you with this: God, the Maker of Heaven and Earth who’s Name shows how He helps His people (Psalm 124:8), lifts up those who are bowed down (Psalm 145:14, Psalm 146:8). God loves you so much that He gave up His own Son, Jesus Christ, by sending Him into this world to give you all true life and light by believing in Him (John 3:16-21). All of us have sinned/done wrong and become separated from God (Genesis 3:19-24), but Jesus took that by dying on the cross (Romans 3:23-25) and then He conquered death and sin by coming back to life (Romans 6:9-10). Now, when we confess our sins and trust Him and make Him our Lord, He forgives us (1 John 1:9) and saves us (Romans 10:9-11). Jesus wants to take all these burdens and give you all true rest (Matthew 11:28-30). He can heal any disease (Matthew 8:17) and strengthen you if hardship continues! God meets all the needs of His people according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians) and is near to all who call on Him in truth (Psalm 145:18). Jesus is Faithful and True (Revelation 19:11), a Shepherd who truly tends His people and gives them no need to fear (Jeremiah 23:4-6, John 10:11-14)! He will never let you down!
